ActWells Number of wells in active production. DATA LINEAGE SUMMARY: The U.S. dataset was developed by the USGS in 1995 and can be downloaded at http://energy.cr.usgs.gov/oilgas/noga/data.html. TotWells was derived from the Nowls item in the USGS dataset as follows: Nowls = 1, TotWells = 1, 2 = 3, 4 = 12, 5 = 24, 6 = 48, 7 = 96, 8 = 192, 9 = 257. ActWells was derived from the Prwls item as described above. The Canada data were provided by CommEn Space and were created by IHS Energy. The Canadian wells were grouped into 3 categories based on the Status_ item: abandoned, suspended, active. (Can_petroleumwells_current_st.dbf is a descriptive table of the categorization.) The abandoned and suspended categories were calculated to Sym=4 and Nowls=1. The active category was calculated to Sym=3, Nowls=1, and Prwls=1.
