US DATA SOURCE: U.S. Geological Survey YT DATA SOURCE: Yukon Geological Survey, Department of Energy, Mines and Resources BC DATA SOURCE: BC Geological Survey, Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources US Scale of Original Source Maps: Varies US Date of Original Source Maps: 06/22/2006 YT Scale of Original Source Maps: 1:250,000 YT Date of Original Source Maps: 2002 BC Scale of Original Source Maps: 1:50,000 BC Date of Original Source Maps: 2006 GEODATASET EXTENT: Western North America FEATURE ATTRIBUTE TABLES CODES AND VALUES: COM_MAJOR Major commodities. Nickel DATA LINEAGE SUMMARY: The US data is a subset of the Mineral Resources Data System (MRDS). MRDS is mineral resource occurrence data covering the world, most thoroughly within the U.S. The dataset was downloaded from the USGS at http://tin.er.usgs.gov/mrds/mrds.zip and clipped to the study area boundaries. The item COM_MAJOR Like '%Nickel%' and the item DEV_STAT = 'occurrence', 'prospect', and 'unknown' were selected to create this layer. The B.C. data is from the MINFILE which contains geological, location and economic information on over metallic, industrial mineral mines, deposits and occurrences. The BC data set was downloaded from http://www.em.gov.bc.ca/Mining/Geolsurv/MapPlace/geoData.htm and the item COMMOD_D1 = nickel and the item STATUS_D = 'showing prospect' and 'developed prospect'(with item PRODUCTN = 'N') were selected to create this layer. The Yukon data were downloaded from http://www.geomaticsyukon.ca/data_download.html#geology. The items MAIN_COMMO = '%Ni%' and STATUS_D = 'DEPOSIT', 'PROSPECT', 'SHOWING' were selected to create this layer. The three data sets were then merged together.
