DATA LINEAGE SUMMARY: 
The lower 48 dataset was developed by the Environmental Working Group analysis of leasing and drilling records in 12 western states, contained in the Bureau of Land Management's Land and Mineral Records 2000 database, acquired by EWG May 15 2004.  The Alaska data were provided by the State of Alaska Dept. of Natural Resources and can be downloaded at http://www.dog.dnr.state.ak.us/oil/products/data/downloads/downloads.htm
Each lease is based on corresponding legal descriptions, which is available to the public at the Division of Oil and Gas and online at http://www.dnr.state.ak.us/las/lasmenu.cfm.
