DATA LINEAGE SUMMARY: 
National Atlas created the city shapefile used to identify the location of each ski resort by matching the ski resort’s mailing address with the corresponding city.  Ski resorts with mailing addresses not found in the National Atlas city shapefile were located via other means (Rand McNally road atlas, www.mapquest.com,) and placed at the data creator’s best estimate according to these sources.  Each ski resort was given a unique ID number in the shapfile which was then linked by that number with additional information in an excel worksheet, that contained ticket price, number of lifts, website address, city name and uphill capacity (if known) from individual ski resort websites and/or goski.com information.
