These and other biological metrics are summarized per ecoregion as described in the following publication: Terrestrial Ecoregions of North America: A Conservation Assessment by Taylor H. Ricketts, Eric Dinerstein, David M. Olson, Colby J. Loucks et al., Island Press The input datasets describing the distributions of large and meso-carnivores can be downloaded from NatureServe. The datasets showing the species distributions of black bear, brown bear, fisher, lynx, marten, moutain lion, wolves, and wolverines were converted to binary grids and added together to produce the final dataset showing the numbers of carnivores that occur in any given area. In order to create the final dataset showing the areas of overlap in these three biodiversity layers, three binary grids were created and added together (the thresholds below were chosen to select approx. 25% of the Brainerd funding region): (1) species richness > 2440 (2) species endemism > 8 (3) carnivore richness > 6 MAP PROJECTION PARAMETERS PROJECTION ALBERS CONICAL EQUAL AREA DATUM NAD83 UNITS METERS SPHEROID GRS1980 PARAMETERS 1st standard parallel 29 30 0.000 2nd standard parallel 45 30 0.000 central meridian -96 00 0.000 latitude of projection's origin 37 30 0.000 false easting (meters) 0.00000 false northing (meters) 0.00000 DATA SOURCES CONTACT(S): Name: World Wildlife Fund - US Address: 1250 24th Street, NW Washington, DC 20037-1193 Web site: www.worldwildlife.org/science Phone: 202.822.3452 Email: nasser.olwero@wwfus.org Name: NatureServe Address: 1101 Wilson Blvd, 15th Floor Arlington, VA 22209 Web site: http://www.natureserve.org Contact Person: Bruce Young Phone: (506) 645-6231 Fax: (506) 645-6231 Email: bruce_young@natureserve.org Name: Linda Phillips Address: Department of Ecology Montana State University PO Box 173460 Bozeman, MT 59717-3460 Web site: http://www.homepage.montana.edu/~hansen/ Phone: (406) 994-4548 Fax: (406) 994-3190 Email: lphillips@montana.edu Name: Interagency Grizzly Bear Committee (IGBC) Web site: http://www.fs.fed.us/r1/wildlife/igbc/ HEADWATERS ECONOMICS CONTACT: Name: Headwaters Economics Geographic Data Library Abbr.
